Honor Roll: Town of Sand Lake, New York, War Memorials

Not far from our hotel in East Greenbush, New York, is the Town of Sand Lake. The town is in Rensselaer County and includes several lakes. Most important to me, however, was Veteran's Memorial Park.

Veteran's Memorial Park, Sand Lake, New York; personal collection

The park was established in memory of those who served their country. A large wall includes veterans from the Revolutionary War through the war in Iraq. The names of veterans of the Revolutionary War and Civil War are listed separately, but the names of veterans of other wars are not.

  1. Hi! You're in my neck of the woods (East Greenbush)! I hope you enjoy your stay!

    1. We did enjoy our two weeks there. My husband is there two weeks out of every month. I go with him a few times a year (not in the winter). And we have a fabulous time. While he's a work. I explore old cemeteries and little towns.

  2. It is amazing to see that list of men and to know that there are many more listed elsewhere. We certainly owe them our gratitude. The war memorials are very awe inspiring.

    1. I have enjoyed this project for just that reason. It makes me slow down and really appreciate the sacrifices those who came before made for each and everyone of us. I have discovered most states and counties have war/veteran memorials and many towns and cities do as well. I just love finding them and I hope one day my transcriptions will be found by a descendant.
