Sede Wood
born circa 1781 in Bedford County, Virginia
died 16 August 1824 in Adair County, Kentucky
married Henry Dooley on 7 August 1797 in Bedford County
I was able to find an abstract of their marriage in several sources:

Browsing through the Bedford County marriage bonds, I found two other daughters:
Elizabeth Wood
daughter of Thomas Wood
married Jonathan Smith on 15 March 1791 in Bedford County

Pebe Wood
daughter of Thomas Wood
married Peter Purnal on 15 February 1792 in Bedford County.

Since Peter Purnal married again in 1793, I am assuming Pebe Wood died during their first year of marriage.
The marriage bond abstracts for Elizabeth and Pebe state they are daughters of Thomas Wood.
Other people named Wood mentioned in the abstracts:
Josiah Wood
James Wood
Jeremiah Wood
Who are they and what is their relationship to Thomas and his three known daughters?
My three times great grandmother and brick wall was Sarah "Sally" Wood (c1792-after 1884). So I am looking for a son of Capt. Thomas Wood. The search continues but now I have some names to research.

ReplyDeleteThat is not "my" Sally Wood.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Thomas Wood did not name his sons in his will, his sons Jonathan, Jeremiah, James and Josiah were listed in his Estate Appraisement records in the Bedford County Will Books. Elizabeth Wood, his wife, was listed as Executrix.
ReplyDeleteAnother key record to proving the identity of the sons of Thomas Wood is the will of his son Jonathan whose will is nearby Botetourt County Wills, proven at Botetourt's February 1804 Court. It names his brothers, James, Jeremiah and Josiah, and John Wood, son of his brother Jeremiah.
Hope this helps your researchers. Additional info: https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Jonathan_Wood_%2829%29
Oops, the John Wood mentioned was the son of his brother JAMES, not Jeremiah.
ReplyDeleteignore, was right the first time, view the will on the WeRelate link above. thanks.
DeleteJim, thank you for reaching out to me. I was able to figure out the names of Capt. Thomas Wood's sons. However, I also worked on several DNA matches whose trees included the Wood surname and believe that "my" Sarah Wood's grandfather was John Wood (c1735-1783) of Amherst County. At least two of his sons lived in Bedford County for a time. Through the process of elimination after researching all the sons, I think "my" Sarah's father was Paul Wood (c1756-1811). His wife was Elizabeth Finch, which would explain several other DNA matches that were a mystery to me. I am now working on proving it through documentation. But am not sure if I will be successful.
